A Blast From The Past: Ken Griffey Jr.

The mid to late 90's was when the Home Run Derby was the real Home Run Derby. Simple rules, no antics, just pure power* from the best in the game. It was the night to see home runs hit; you couldn't just search YouTube for a home run compilation - you had to wait for this one night every summer to see your heroes launch balls to the moon. We're so overloaded with content now that we forget how special these nights were - looking back on it, it's pure nostalgia. The awe of seeing these home runs by your favorite ballplayers was something that will never be achieved again.

During this time, Ken Griffey Jr. was the one. Loved for his talent, personality, and that smooth swing, he put asses in the seats and eyeballs on the screen. To date, Griffey is the only player to win the crown three times (1994, 1998, 1999). This title is in jeopardy - Pete Alonso has the chance to win his third tonight. We would hate to see the top spot get taken away from Griffey, but I guess 2022 will be nostalgic to look back at at some point. Take a look back at some video and photos of the years which Griffey took the crown...
