Photos: The Live Music Work of Nick Watkin
"I guess I do it (takes photos) because it’s still a connection to my grandmother who passed away and a way of just being creative. I shoot for myself most of the time just to prove like I can do this or that. It’s also a competitive thing with me to prove to myself that I can do what my peers and friends do if not better. I could care less if something I post is getting love or not, dope shit will always be dope shit.
For me shooting any type of musician is a passion of mine because I’ve always wanted to work in music in some sort of capacity. So working as a music photographer basically combines my passions. Because you don’t know what to expect from these artists performance wise - you’re working to create something out of nothing and you’re capturing their raw emotions in the performance. I think that’s one of the joys of doing some music photography as well. I think after Covid and with festivals coming back this fall we’re going to see a completely new side of artist performances and how much emotion is going to be thrown out into it."
